What is a web app, and how is it different from a website?
A website mainly presents information. A web app lets people do things: log in, enter data, book, order, track, approve, calculate. It runs in the browser on any device, so there is nothing to install, and every user always has the latest version. Updates go live for everyone at once, without waiting for app store review, which makes web apps the fastest way to iterate on a tool your team or customers use every day.
Typical web apps we get asked for include client portals, internal dashboards that gather data from several tools, booking and order systems, configurators, and admin panels for mobile apps. Our own Meniu 3D is a web app too: it opens from a QR code and shows dishes in 3D straight in the phone's browser.
What does the development process look like?
- Discovery (first weeks). Interviews with future users, mapping the current workflow, defining the first version and what success means.
- UX and prototype. Clickable screens for the main flows. You test them before code is written.
- Architecture. Data model, user roles, integrations, hosting and security decisions.
- Build in sprints. One- or two-week cycles, each ending with a demo on a staging link.
- Testing. Automated tests for critical logic, plus real users working through real tasks.
- Launch. Data migration, go-live, monitoring and a short period of close support.
- Iteration. Next features from the list, based on how people actually use the app.
Which technology stack do we use?
We pick the stack by the problem, but most projects land on a familiar, well-supported combination:
| Layer | Typical choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Frontend | React with TypeScript, Vite or Next.js | Large ecosystem, easy to hire for, fast interfaces |
| Backend | Node.js or Python APIs, serverless functions | Fast to build, scales with demand |
| Database | PostgreSQL, managed | Reliable, flexible, widely known |
| Hosting | Cloud platforms with automatic deploys | Every change goes live safely in minutes |
| Integrations | REST APIs, webhooks, automation tools | Connect accounting, CRM, payments, email |
| AI features | Established AI models via API | Assistants, search and summaries without training your own model |
The rule behind it: no exotic technology that only one developer in the world understands. You should be able to hand the code to another team if you ever need to.
How long does a web app take?
Honest answer: it depends on scope, and anyone who gives a firm date before discovery is guessing. As a rough shape:
- Simple internal tool or MVP – a few weeks.
- Client portal or booking system with integrations – a few months, usually in stages.
- Larger platform – delivered in releases, each one usable, over a longer period.
Timelines slip mostly because of decisions, not code: features added mid-sprint, slow feedback, access to third-party systems arriving late. Staged delivery keeps you using something real early.
What drives the cost of a web app?
We do not publish prices, because the same label covers very different projects. The factors that matter:
- Number of user roles and permission rules.
- Number and quality of integrations with other systems.
- Data migration from spreadsheets or older software.
- Security and compliance requirements, such as audit logs or sensitive data.
- Design depth, from clean standard components to fully custom interfaces.
- Hosting, monitoring and support after launch.
What happens after the web app goes live?
Launch is the start of real usage, and real usage always shows things no workshop predicted. Plan for:
- Monitoring – error tracking and uptime alerts, so problems are fixed before users report them.
- Usage data – which screens people use, where they drop off, which features nobody touches.
- Security updates – frameworks and libraries release fixes regularly; they need to be applied.
- Backups – automatic, tested, with a clear restore procedure.
- A short feedback loop – an easy way for users to report issues and suggest changes.
Some clients take all of this in-house after handover; others keep us on for maintenance and new features. Both work, as long as somebody clearly owns it.
How do you choose a web app development company?
- Open something they built and use it yourself. We point people to Meniu 3D and Lumea lui Liviu, our gamified task manager.
- Check they ask about your users and workflow before talking technology.
- Confirm you will see working software every one or two weeks.
- Make sure code, repository and hosting accounts are yours.
- Ask who will maintain the app after launch and how.
Our full approach is on the custom apps and software service page. If the app sits next to a public site, read website development in Romania, and if part of the goal is removing manual work, see AI automation in Romania.
Frequently asked questions
Is a web app or a mobile app better for my business?
If users need quick access from any device without installing anything, a web app is usually better. Choose a mobile app when you need frequent use, push notifications, offline mode or deep device features.
Can a web app work on phones?
Yes. A well-built web app adapts to any screen size and runs in the phone's browser, and it can be added to the home screen like an app.
Who hosts the web app after launch?
It runs on a cloud platform with the account in your company's name. We can manage hosting and monitoring for you or hand it to your team.
Can you connect the web app to our existing tools?
Usually yes, through APIs or webhooks: accounting, CRM, payment providers, email and spreadsheets are common integrations.
How do you keep the app secure?
With proper authentication, role-based permissions, encrypted connections, regular updates and backups, and extra controls such as audit logs when the data requires it.
Do I need a detailed specification before contacting you?
No. A short description of the problem is enough to start; discovery and the prototype turn it into a clear plan.
Need a web app built around how your business works?
Call us and describe the workflow. We will come back with how we would scope a first version.
